A meeting to celebrate diversity
One of the highlights of the year for Afghan Community – Migrants & Refugees – Greece is the… Festival of cultures in Athens holds a special place.
For one day, associations, artists, and local residents come together to celebrate the city’s cultural diversity and give visibility to refugee communities, including the Afghan community.
A space to meet and discover each other
The festival brings together a variety of stands and activities:
- traditional and contemporary music
- dance and artistic performances
- tastings of culinary specialities
- workshops for children and young people
- presentations of associations and solidarity projects
For Afghan families, it is an opportunity to showcase their culture, talents, and stories, but also to discover those of other communities living in Greece.
Useful information on the site
Alongside the festive side, several stands are dedicated to information and guidance:
- information on rights, the asylum procedure, and residence permits
- presentations of organisations offering social, legal, or psychological support
- contacts for language courses, tutoring, and activities for children
Volunteers from Afghan Community are present to support people who have specific questions or who are looking for a reliable point of contact.
Why is this festival important for the Afghan community?
This type of event helps to:
- combat the isolation of refugee families
- strengthen trust between Greek residents and new arrivals
- give a voice to refugees beyond numbers and administrative procedures
- show that the Afghan community takes part in the cultural and social life of the city
In this way, culture becomes a bridge between individual stories and Greek society as a whole.
