New EU asylum rules: what changes in Greece

Information meeting about procedures

The Greek Parliament passed the law implementing the new EU Pact on 9 June 2026. The rules have applied since 12 June 2026.

The main changes

  • Screening on arrival (identity, health, vulnerability, security): up to 7 days at the border.
  • Fingerprints and photo from age 6 in the Eurodac database.
  • A border procedure of up to 12 weeks for some people.
  • A new EU regulation replaces Dublin III; family links remain important.

On the ground

In July 2026, the Greek Council for Refugees reported long registration delays. If this affects you, contact a legal aid organisation.
