Acting together

Volunteers and organisations

How to help the Afghan community in Athens, and how to work with us.

Volunteers and children during an outdoor activity

In short

  • Do you speak Dari, Farsi, Pashto, Greek or English? Your language is already precious help.
  • A volunteer guides and accompanies; they do not give legal advice on a case.
  • Organisations can write to us to work together and refer families better.

Become a volunteer

  • Interpreting and translation (Dari, Farsi, Pashto ↔ Greek, English).
  • Accompanying: appointments at hospital, school, KEP or DYPA.
  • Classes and homework help: Greek, English, children’s homework.
  • Events and culture: celebrations, sport, workshops for children and women.
  • Digital help: helping to book an appointment online or create an email.

Good practice for volunteers

  • Confidentiality: never share a person’s story, photos or documents without their consent.
  • Refer, don’t decide: for asylum or an appeal, refer to a legal organisation.
  • Emergencies: in danger call 112; child alone: 15107; violence against a woman: 15900.
  • Look after yourself: listening to hard stories is tiring; talk about it and take breaks.
